Let’s go to the Beach!

Obviously, it’s Summer.  If you live near the coast (or plan to travel) going to the beach is a must for any Summer vacation.

I found a bunch of cute beach related books (and one not so much).  I also found a bunch of leis in the craft closet and extra sea shells!

Don’t forget the intro song, and hand play! (previously posted here)

Beach Play by Marsha Hayles- Simple book about playing on the beach.

Sea Rex by Molly Idle- There’s a series of books Idle is doing with dinosaurs and they’re all adorable.  Tea Rex, Sea Rex, Camp Rex.  This one has the children bringing their dino friends to the beach, each page has a warning about the beach (showing the dinosaurs doing what they shouldn’t be doing).

If You Ever Want to Bring a Piano to the Beach, DON’T! by Elise Parsley- She’s warned not to bring her piano, but she does anyway.  Lots of crazy things happen before it floats away.

The Whale in My Swimming Pool by Joyce Wan-Ok, not a beach book, but it’s an ocean animal!  I figured I could make it work, mostly just because it’s adorable and I wanted to read it.

These last two books are a little longer, so I saved them just for the older kids’ storytime:

Ladybug Girl at the Beach by Daniel Soman- At first, she’s afraid of the big scary ocean, but then she becomes Ladybug Girl!  Nothing can frighten Ladybug Girl!

Duck and Goose Go to the Beach by Tad Hills- Part of a series of books, but works well as a stand alone.  These two friends spend the day at the beach.

Our craft this week was an aquarium.  All you need is paper plates, a few shades of blue tissue paper cut into squares, and a print-out of fish clip art for the kids to color in and cut out and glue onto the plate.  Finishing touch is to add some tiny seashells (this craft especially well since the movie Finding Dory had just come out in theaters).
